Reliable stopping and starting
Brake motors always apply a holding torque in the novoltage
state. Compression springs apply a force to
the axially free armature disc, which builds up a braking
torque via friction linings. The brake torque is transmitted
to the shaft via the keyed joint to the lining carrier
or a toothed driver hub. When a voltage is applied to
the brake coil, the armature disc is lifted, releasing the
brake linings and permitting the motor to start up.
